Supporting Missionary Health and Wellness

We know that your mission is a time to set aside many things and focus on teaching and serving.  Here at Fit Where You Are, we believe that maintaining your health will enable you to be more successful now and in the future.  We aim to provide products and support to aid you in making strength and wellness an integral part of your mission life.

My Story

As a child I was in constant motion: climbing trees, creating mud cities and water systems, riding my bike, caring for and playing with animals, building forts, exploring, imagining, and creating. My wise, observant and half-exasperated Mom enrolled me in gymnastics. I fell in love with the sport, and spent countless hours training as a competitive gymnast.

When I was 12, I was forced by injury to quit gymnastics and leave the lifestyle I knew and loved so dearly. That change of  took a real toll on my mental health and confidence. My Mom wisely recognized the issue and began enrolling (at the awkward age of 13) in all sorts of sports and physical activities. As the "new girl" I felt awkward more often than not, trying things for the first time that my new teammates had been practicing for years.  My enthusiasm  and effort rarely made up for my lack of skill. However, this lead me to discover an appreciation for many different physical activities and diverse opportunities for fitness available today.

I also became acutely aware that the more active and fit I was, the better my life was. When I was moving, I had more confidence, more energy and more drive. In the decades since those difficult days as a 13-year old trying out basketball or soccer for the first time, I have discovered a love and need for fitness in my life.

Today I enjoy running, biking, swimming, strength classes, kayaking, hiking, triathlons, and paddle boarding. I recognize that by committing some part of every day to moving and strengthening my body, I'm enhancing all aspects of my day and well-being.

About the Missionary Workout Kit:

The journey to create this product began years ago as I became aware of the unique challenges many missionaries have maintaining their fitness level while serving.  My son Landen, who served in Angola, sent me this pictures of a broomstick/water jug contraption he'd tied together as a makeshift barbell, and told stories of how the missionaries would try to lug around hundreds of pounds of random weights they'd found from transfer to transfer!  My younger sister, who served in Nashville, at times resorted to running around in a small circle  shared how because her companion didn't want to workout, within sight of her companion!

Without access to the internet, many missionaries feel unsure of how or what to do to maintain or improve their fitness.  They may find themselves bored with pushup and sit-up routine. Many missionaries feel a loss of control with their bodies and became frustrated and unsure of how to get healthy.  They may even assume that they are just going to have to wait until they returne home to address their health.

I believe there is a better way.  I want my children and all missionaries to have the equipment and resources they need to build and maintain their fitness while on their missions. Missionaries need not sacrifice their health while serving the Lord. In fact, I believe they will be MORE effective servants when they are strong and healthy.

I spent years researching and developing a program that could be accomplished with minimal space and equipment, with clear and simple pictures and descriptions, that could be adapted for both the beginners and the advanced athlete.  I have created a kit that is transportable, durable, and compact.

These workouts are divers, interchangeable, and can be modified based on your time restrictions. The multiple bands allow for missionaries with all levels of fitness to challenge themselves.

My desire is to make it as easy as possible for you to increase and maintain your health while serving.  Grab your kit, find a small open space, pick a workout, and experience the joy of moving the miraculous body God gave you!  There is no better way to start your day!
